JRRMMC Interdepartmental Research Contest

 

 

The JRRMMC Dermatology residents conquer the JRRMMC Interdepartmental Research Contest held last December 4, 2019. Dr. Marivic Bumalay scored the top price in the Analytic category (Research Title: A Randomized Assessor-blinded Study on the Efficacy of Intralesional Autologous Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) for Chronic Non-healing Ulcers in Filipino Patients), Dr. Kei George Rebolledo won 2nd place in the Descriptive category (Research Title: Dermoscopic Features of Common Hypomelanotic Disorders: A Descriptive Study), and Dr. Clarice Isabelle Garcia (Research Title: Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome in a Filipino Male Detected with a Novel PTCH1 Mutation: A Case Report) got 2nd place in the Case Contest presentation.

E-Poster Presentation at the 42nd PDS Annual Convention

 Dr. Patrick Lansangan wins 3rd place at the E-poster presentation entitled Novel Mutation of EDA gene in X-linked Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia Associated with Benign Adnexal Tumors, Rhinologic and Gastroenterologic manifestations: A case report at the 42nd PDS Annual Convention held last November 5-7, 2019.

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Riza Milante for bringing so much honor and pride to our institution and our country for bagging 3rd place in the recently concluded 2018 American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting: Everett C. Fox Resident's and Fellow Symposium for her work entitled, "Efficacy, Safety, and Tolerability of Single vs Multiple Intralesional Immunotherapy Injection of PPD in the Treatment of Verruca Vulgaris: a Non-inferiority Trial".

RCD 2016

The 22nd Regional Conference in Dermatology last April 21-24, 2016 saw four of our residents presenting their studies on both the oral and research poster categories. Dr. Czarina Pineda had her oral presentation in Singapore while Doctors Justine  Calderon, Donn Mendoza and Windell Tan presented their research posters. Well done to our senior residents for showcasing the awesome work being done in JRRMMC.

ODAC 2016

Last January 2016, four of our residents attended the Orlando Dermatology Aesthetic & Clinical (ODAC) Conference to represent JRRMMC Department of Dermatology in the Advanced Residency Training and Education Research Poster Contest. We are so proud to have these doctors bring the international light to JRRMMC.

"Every year since 1969, at each Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Everett C. Fox, MD Award is granted to the Most Outstanding Clinical and Laboratory Researches submitted by a Dermatology Resident or Fellow. The award is funded by proceeds from a bequest by Dr. Everett C. Fox. Dr. Fox was a leading dermatologist in Dallas, Texas and was active at Baylor and University of Texas Southwestern. He was a wonderful teacher and clinician, respected by patients and colleagues alike. He was vice president of the American Academy of Dermatology in 1941 and served multiple years on the Academy's board of directors. He received the national Clark W. Finnerud Award for Meritorious Service in the practice and teaching of dermatology in 1975.
In this year’s 72nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology, 89 papers worldwide were submitted for screening. Six papers were selected to compete in the Clinical Category, while five were selected to compete in the Laboratory Category.

These qualified research papers were orally presented at the contest and were judged by the expert dermatologists/epidemiologists of the American Academy of Dermatology - Robert Dellavalle MD (University of Colorado), Sarah Aaron MD (University of California San Francisco), Sandy Leachman MD (Oregon Health Sciences University) and Edward Cowen MD (National Institute of Health).  Dr. Mara Therese Padilla Evangelista won first place in the clinical category, while Dr. Jubin Ryu of University of California San Francisco won first place in the laboratory category. Dr. Evangelista is the first Filipino to receive this award. Her paper will be published in the British Journal of Dermatology."

February 2014

The JRRMMC Department of Dermatology would like to congratulate our recently graduated alumna, Dr. Mara Therese Evangelista, for her SECOND internationally published article! The study, Simvastatin as a novel therapeutic agent for venous ulcers: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was recently accepted for publication at the prestigious British Journal of Dermatology. Congratulations, Dr. Evangelista!

November 14, 2014: Dr. Mara Therese Evangelista was awarded first place in the JRRMMC 2013 Annual Interdepartmental Research Forum (Analytical Category) for the study "Simvastatin as a Novel Therapeutic Agent for Venous Ulcer Healing: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial" and Dr. Hester Gail Lim was awarded first place in the Descriptive Category for the case report: Focal Dermal Hypoplasia: When Skin is Just the Tip of the Iceberg.
